Pollution is a serious problem... litterally
We wouldn't go through all this effort to clean the planet if we didn't believe it was important. Below are some of the many reasons why.
Litter negatively impacts wildlife populations in many ways. When animals mistake litter for food and eat it, the trash ends up hurting their digestive systems. Sharp pieces of litter cuts animals in the wild. Food wrappers on the side of the road attract nearby wildlife, which results in roadkill. Litter also ruins wildlife habitats and ultimately contributes to population decline.
If we can normalize the act of picking up litter when we see it, then we will create a culture of caring for the environment that will translate into other social changes in support of a cleaner future for our planet.
We can create healthier, safer, and more sustainable communities, one piece of trash at a time.
Did you know that litter can break down into tiny little pieces of micro-plastics that end up in the food we eat and the water we drink? There's a lot left to learn about the implications of these micro-plastics, but we know it's not good for public health. Litter also spreads bacteria and even causes air pollution as it decomposes.
Do good, feel good!
Volunteering has been scientifically proven to improve your mood by releasing endorphins in your brain.
Being outdoors is also great for your mental health - so cleanups are the best of both worlds!
Cleaning up is an excuse to get outside and get some exercise! Whether you go for a 5 minute walk or a 10 mile hike, simply getting some fresh air and moving is so good for your body.
Did you know there's a term for picking up litter while you're on a run? It's called "plogging" and we love it because it's an excuse to stop and take breaks!
take a stand for the planet
Choosing to cleanup is about so much more than just disposing of trash properly. It's about choosing to take a stand for the planet. It might be uncomfortable in the beginning - but change never came from comfort zones... and the planet needs all the help it can get!
